Why Bradford Uses OEM Motors

Generic aftermarket motors may fit the mounting bracket — but the wrong horsepower, RPM, or airflow rating can damage your compressor and void your system warranty. Bradford only installs OEM or direct OEM-equivalent motors.

Signs Your Blower Motor Is Failing

Don't wait until the motor fails completely. Early symptoms can prevent a frozen coil or compressor damage.

Weak or No Airflow
Vents barely blow air even though the system is running
AC Runs But Won't Cool
Compressor is on but rooms stay hot — no air movement
Humming With No Airflow
Motor hums or buzzes but the fan won't spin
Burning Smell From Vents
Overheating motor windings — shut down immediately
Blower Won't Shut Off
Fan runs continuously even when cooling cycle ends
Breaker Keeps Tripping
Motor draws excessive current trying to start
Burning Smell = Call Immediately

A burning smell from your vents means the motor windings are overheating. Shut the system off at the thermostat and call Bradford right away. Continuing to run the system risks a motor fire and compressor damage.

Our Blower Motor Replacement Process

Every replacement follows a structured process to ensure the correct motor is installed and the system is fully verified before we leave.

01
Diagnose
Test motor windings, capacitor, and control board to confirm blower motor failure vs. capacitor or board issue.
02
Source OEM Motor
Identify the exact OEM motor for your system — correct horsepower, RPM, voltage, and rotation direction.
03
Safe Shutdown
Disconnect power at the disconnect box and verify zero voltage before opening the air handler.
04
Remove Old Motor
Detach the squirrel-cage fan, disconnect wiring, and remove the failed motor from the mounting bracket.
05
Install & Wire
Mount the OEM replacement motor, reconnect wiring per manufacturer specs, and reinstall the fan wheel.
06
Test & Tune
Restore power, verify correct airflow and amperage draw, and complete the complimentary 20-point tune-up.

Blower Motor FAQ

What is an AC blower motor and what does it do?+
The blower motor is the electric motor inside your air handler (indoor unit) that spins the squirrel-cage fan. That fan pulls return air through the filter, pushes it across the evaporator coil where it is cooled, and then forces the conditioned air through your duct system into every room. Without a working blower motor, your AC compressor may still run — cooling the coil — but no air moves through the house.
What are the symptoms of a failing AC blower motor?+
Common warning signs include: (1) weak or no airflow from vents even though the system appears to be running, (2) the AC runs but rooms don't cool down, (3) a humming or buzzing noise from the air handler with no airflow, (4) a burning smell from the vents — overheating motor windings, (5) the blower runs continuously and won't shut off, and (6) the circuit breaker trips repeatedly when the system tries to start.
Why do blower motors fail in Arizona?+
Arizona's extreme heat forces AC systems to run far more hours per year than in most climates — often 3,000–4,000 hours annually versus 1,000–1,500 in northern states. That extended run time accelerates bearing wear, capacitor degradation (the blower motor has its own run capacitor), and winding insulation breakdown. Dust accumulation on the squirrel-cage fan also adds load to the motor, shortening its life.
Does Bradford use OEM or aftermarket blower motors?+
Bradford uses OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) motors or direct OEM-equivalent motors for every replacement. OEM motors are engineered specifically for your system's airflow requirements, electrical characteristics, and mounting dimensions. Generic aftermarket motors may fit physically but can deliver incorrect airflow, reducing efficiency and potentially damaging the compressor by starving it of return air.
Can a bad blower motor damage my AC system?+
Yes. If the blower motor fails completely, the evaporator coil can freeze solid — blocking airflow entirely and potentially causing liquid refrigerant to flood back to the compressor, which can destroy it. A partially failing motor that runs slowly can also cause the coil to ice up intermittently. Addressing a blower motor issue promptly protects the much more expensive compressor.
How long does a blower motor replacement take?+
Most blower motor replacements take 1–2 hours. Bradford stocks OEM motors for all major brands — Trane, Carrier, Goodman, Lennox, Rheem, and others — on every service vehicle. The technician will also inspect and replace the blower motor capacitor if needed, since a weak capacitor is often the root cause of motor failure.
Is Bradford licensed and insured for HVAC work in Arizona?+
Yes. Bradford Heating & Cooling holds Arizona ROC License #353859 and carries full liability insurance. All technicians are background-checked and trained on current electrical safety regulations.
What is included in the free tune-up with blower motor replacement?+
Every blower motor replacement at Bradford includes a complimentary 20-point tune-up: thermostat calibration, refrigerant level check, condenser coil inspection, electrical connection tightening, capacitor test, contactor inspection, drain line flush, and filter check. This is a $59 value included at no charge.
