Our Installation Process

Every Bradford installation follows the same 8-step process — from load calculation to 72-hour follow-up. Bradford works with two vetted installation crews and verifies completed installation steps before the team leaves.

The Bradford 8-Step Installation Standard

01

Manual J Load Calculation

Before we touch a single bolt, we calculate the exact cooling load your home requires. We measure square footage, ceiling height, window area, insulation, and sun exposure. This takes 20–30 minutes and ensures your new system is sized correctly — not just matched to whatever was there before.

Why it matters: Oversized systems short-cycle, leaving humidity in the air. Undersized systems run constantly and never catch up. Getting the size right is the most important thing we do.

02

AHRI-Matched Equipment Selection

We match your condenser and air handler using the AHRI certified ratings database — the same database Trane uses to certify system efficiency. Mismatched equipment can reduce SEER2 efficiency by 15–20% and void the manufacturer warranty.

Why it matters: Your 17 SEER2 system only performs at 17 SEER2 if the indoor and outdoor units are matched. We verify this before ordering.

03

New Fused Disconnect

We replace the disconnect box on every installation — no exceptions. The disconnect is the first line of electrical protection for your new system. Installing a new $15,000 system on a 15-year-old disconnect is a liability we won't accept.

Why it matters: Bradford standard: new disconnect on every job.

04

Surge Protector Installation

Arizona's monsoon season (June–September) produces some of the most intense lightning activity in the United States. A single power surge can destroy a variable-speed compressor ($1,200+) or a ComfortLink II control board ($400+) instantly. We install a dedicated HVAC surge protector on every job.

Why it matters: Homeowner's insurance typically doesn't cover surge damage to HVAC equipment. This $250 device protects a $15,000 investment.

05

Circuit Breaker Inspection

We inspect the AC circuit breaker on every installation. On homes 15 years or older, we recommend replacement — Arizona's heat accelerates breaker aging significantly. A breaker that fails to trip fast enough can destroy a new compressor in seconds.

Why it matters: A $75–$150 breaker replacement protects a $1,200 compressor. We'd rather spend $100 now than have a failed breaker void your warranty.

06

Float Switch & Drain Line

We install a float switch on the condensate drain pan. If the drain line clogs and the pan fills with water, the float switch shuts the system off before water overflows into your ceiling or walls. We also clear and test the drain line before leaving.

Why it matters: Water damage from a clogged condensate drain is one of the most common — and most preventable — HVAC-related home repairs.

07

Full System Commissioning

After installation, we verify refrigerant charge to manufacturer spec, test static pressure and airflow at the supply and return registers, program the thermostat, and run the system through a full cooling cycle. We don't leave until everything checks out.

Why it matters: A system that's installed but not commissioned is like a car that's assembled but never test-driven. Commissioning is what separates a professional installation from a swap-and-go.

08

72-Hour Follow-Up Call

Ken calls personally within 72 hours of every installation to confirm your system is performing correctly. If anything isn't right, we come back — no charge, no argument.

Why it matters: Most HVAC companies disappear after the install. Ken's number is on the quote, the warranty card, and his personal phone. He answers.

Installation FAQs

How long does a Bradford installation take?

Most split system replacements are completed in 4–6 hours. A complete home comfort system with air handler, condenser, and ductwork modifications may take 6–8 hours. Bradford works with two vetted installation crews and verifies completed installation steps before the team leaves.

Do you use subcontractors?

Bradford works with two vetted installation crews that have completed many previous Bradford installations. Bradford coordinates the work and verifies completed installation steps before the team leaves.

What is a Manual J load calculation?

It's the industry-standard method for sizing an HVAC system to your specific home — accounting for square footage, ceiling height, windows, insulation, and sun exposure. Bradford performs one on every installation. Without it, contractors just match the old system's size, which is often wrong.

Does Bradford register the Trane warranty for me?

Yes. Bradford registers every Trane and RunTru system within 30 days of installation, activating the full 10-year parts warranty. You receive written confirmation. If you ever need a warranty claim, Bradford handles the process.

Why does Bradford replace the disconnect on every job?

The fused disconnect is the primary electrical protection for your system. Installing a new $10,000–$15,000 system on a 15-year-old disconnect is a risk we won't accept. A new disconnect costs $150–$200 and ensures the protection matches the new equipment.
