Bradford Is Authorized for Both — Here's the Honest Comparison
Bradford is a factory-authorized dealer for both Trane and RunTru. We sell both product lines and install both regularly. This comparison is not a sales pitch for either — it's the honest breakdown we give homeowners when they ask us which system to choose.
What Is RunTru?
RunTru is a Trane brand. Trane manufactures RunTru systems using the same engineering standards and quality control processes as Trane-branded equipment. The difference is positioning: RunTru is designed for value-conscious buyers who want Trane reliability without paying for premium features like communicating thermostats and variable-speed compressors.
Efficiency Ratings
| System | SEER2 Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| RunTru A4AC4 | 14.3–16 SEER2 | Budget-conscious replacement |
| Trane XR15 | 15.6 SEER2 | Mid-range efficiency |
| Trane XR17 | 17+ SEER2 | High efficiency, APS rebate eligible |
| Trane XV20i | 22 SEER2 | Maximum efficiency, variable speed |
For Arizona, Bradford generally recommends a minimum of 16 SEER2. The energy savings from a higher-efficiency unit pay back the price difference faster in Arizona than in cooler climates because your system runs so many more hours per year.
Warranty Coverage
Both Trane and RunTru offer a 10-year parts warranty when registered within 60 days of installation. The compressor warranty is also 10 years on both product lines. Bradford handles warranty registration for every installation.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose RunTru if: You need a reliable replacement at the lowest possible upfront cost, your home is well-insulated and doesn't have extreme cooling demands, and you plan to sell the home within 5–7 years.
Choose Trane XR or XV if: You plan to stay in the home long-term, you want maximum energy efficiency to reduce APS/SRP bills, or you want advanced features like variable-speed operation (quieter, better humidity control) and smart thermostat integration.
