$59 A/C Tune-Up, Inspection per unit
Bradford installs USA-made Turbo brand capacitors — not the cheap Chinese imports most contractors use. Turbo capacitors last 2–3× longer in Arizona heat and carry a 5-year warranty.
When Bradford replaces your capacitor, we'll perform a full 20-point AC tune-up at no extra charge — refrigerant check, airflow test, temperature split, and a full system inspection. Normally $59, yours free when you book a capacitor replacement.
Most HVAC contractors install whatever capacitor is cheapest — typically a generic import. Bradford installs Turbo because we stand behind our work. Here's the difference.
| Feature | TURBO (USA-MADE) What Bradford installs | CHEAP IMPORT What most contractors use |
|---|---|---|
| Country of Manufacture | 🇺🇸 Made in USA | 🇨🇳 China (generic import) |
| Typical Lifespan in AZ Heat | 8–12 years | 2–4 years |
| Failure Rate in AZ Climate | Low — engineered for heat | High — fails faster in 110°F+ heat |
| Warranty | 5 years (parts & labor) | 1 year (parts only, if any) |
| MFD Tolerance (Accuracy) | ±3% — tight tolerance | ±10–20% — loose tolerance |
| Max Operating Temperature | 85°C rated | 70°C rated (common) |
| Cost Per Year of Service | ~$32–$48/yr over 8 yrs | ~$60–$90/yr over 2–3 yrs |
| Risk of Repeat Service Call | Very low | High — often fails again within 2 yrs |
A generic imported capacitor might cost a contractor $8–$15. Installed with a service call fee, it looks like a bargain. But when it fails again in 18 months — and in Arizona heat, it often does — you're paying another service call fee plus another capacitor. Over 5 years, a cheap capacitor can cost you 2–3× more than a Turbo. Bradford charges a bit more upfront because we don't want to see you again for the same problem.
Capacitors often give warning signs before complete failure. Catching a weak capacitor during a tune-up can prevent a breakdown on the hottest day of the year.
The system tries to start but nothing happens — or you hear a click and then silence.
The compressor hums but the condenser fan blade is stationary. Classic dual-run capacitor failure.
The AC kicks on briefly, then trips off. Weak capacitor can't sustain motor torque.
A loud hum from the condenser cabinet with no cooling output often signals a seized motor or failed capacitor.
A degraded capacitor forces motors to work harder, increasing power draw before complete failure.
Reduced cooling efficiency as the capacitor weakens — the system runs but can't keep up with the heat.
A weak capacitor often fails completely within days of showing symptoms — typically during the hottest part of the day when your AC is working hardest. If you're seeing any of these signs, call Bradford now before a $300 repair becomes a $700 motor replacement.
Bradford installs only USA-made Turbo brand capacitors — engineered for Arizona heat, backed by a 5-year warranty. Your technician will recommend the right model for your system.
Compact form factor for smaller residential units. Covers the most common single-stage residential MFD ratings.
Best for: smaller tonnage systems, older units with limited cabinet space
The workhorse. Wider MFD range than the Mini — fits the majority of 3–5 ton residential AC systems in the West Valley.
Best for: standard 3–5 ton residential systems, most Trane, Carrier & Goodman units
The highest-grade Turbo capacitor. Widest MFD range available — replaces hundreds of OEM part numbers. Built for Arizona heat.
Best for: high-tonnage systems, premium brands, maximum longevity in extreme heat
All prices are flat rate — parts and labor included. $0 service call fee when you approve the repair. 10% discount for veterans & seniors.
A capacitor is a small cylindrical component — roughly the size of a soda can — that stores and releases electrical energy to start and run the motors in your AC system. Most residential units have a dual-run capacitor that serves both the compressor and the condenser fan motor simultaneously.
Nationally, capacitors last 10–15 years. In the Phoenix metro, that lifespan drops to 5–7 years for quality capacitors — and as little as 2–3 years for cheap imported ones. The reason is simple: Arizona summers push outdoor units to run 8–12 hours a day in ambient temperatures above 110°F. Inside the outdoor cabinet, temperatures can exceed 140°F. That sustained heat causes the electrolyte inside the capacitor to evaporate, weakening its ability to hold a charge.
Cheap Chinese-manufactured capacitors are typically rated to 70°C operating temperature. Arizona cabinet temperatures regularly exceed that. Turbo capacitors are rated to 85°C — a meaningful difference that directly translates to longer service life in our climate.
